Statehouse Renovation


Cabinetmakers work beneath a painting titled "Perry' s Victory" in the rotunda, at the Ohio Statehouse, in Columbus Ohio, on Monday, June 24, 1996. The painting, by artist William H. Powell, commemorates Captain Oliver Hazard Perry's victory over the British in a three hour battle, on September 10, 1813, at Put-in- Bay, on Lake Erie, in the War of 1812. The painting was the first to be commisssioned for the Statehouse in 1857, and was completed in 1865.
